masterpieces by Nikolai Nikolaevich Smirnov were shown for the first time in Moscow

On May, 1-24, 2025, the exhibition «Historical Theatre of Things. Still-lives by Nikolai Smirnov" was held at All-Russia's Museum for Decorative Arts. 25 paintings — one third of the artist's heritage were on display.  Leonid Shishkin,  founder of one of the oldest and most respectable galleries in Moscow  and an expert in the field of Russian painting of the XIX–ХХ centuries acted as a curator of the show.

Nikolai Smirnov (1938–2005) — is an outstanding artist, who excelled in the genre which he called a «historical theatre of objects».

«Nikolai Smirnov once said: "While watching my paintings
one has to stretch him or herself to his or her maximum, he needs to
reflect, to get deep inside his or her being, only then the most
important will happen. I am not offering to my spectator any
easy delights, what i offer is a saving torture".
